Unveiling Unexpected Lineage History: Discovering Scandinavian Roots & a Presidential Connection

Family name Booker

I took the iGENEA DNA test to know more about my lineage and ancestry, not expecting anything out of the ordinary. However, the test offered some fascinating insights into the rich history of my surname, 'Booker'.

The iGENEA DNA test traced the Booker surname back to its British roots, confirming general understanding. However, there was an unexpected Scandinavian connection. This suggested that the Booker surname might harken back to the times of Danish Vikings who ruled large parts of England until the 11th century. The tie to Scandinavia was a delightful twist in my family narrative that I could not have anticipated.

Yet, the surprises in my DNA history didn't end there. The test results also inferred a connection to Zachary Taylor, the 12th President of the United States. This inspired me to dig deeper, and I found that Zachary's grandmother, Alice Taylor, was born Alice Booker. The realization that I am distantly related to a former US president through the Booker lineage has added an entirely new layer to my understanding of my family history.

The iGENEA DNA test has truly been an enlightening journey, revealing more about my lineage than I could have ever guessed. From discovering our ancient Scandinavian origins to the link with a prominent historical figure, these revelations have both enriched and broadened my identity in unimaginable ways. They have opened up new avenues for research and exploration, and uncovered a depth and richness in the Booker name that extends far beyond its English origin. This experience has made me appreciate the interconnectedness of cultures and histories, and how our surnames don’t just denote who we are, but also where we come from and where our roots truly lie.

X. Booker
